Saint
Vincent Strambi High School goes back almost 4 decades ago when the first
Catholic Priest, Father Dunstan Guzinski of the Passionist Order, came
to our area and with a courageous first step began projects for the people
of Bull Savannah. Apart from building a Church for the newly founded Catholic
Community, he quickly endeavoured in building a school and thus was born
the Saint Vincent Strambi Trade and Agricultural School.
Father Angelo
Jacovone, C.P., well remembered by the local residents of Bull Savannah,
took over the School from Father Dunstan Guzinski and demonstrated great
capabilities as Headmaster. Despite hard work and dedication to the local
community over a prolonged period of time, the school was forced to close
due to a lack of priests.
In the early
years of the Diocese of Mandeville, a few of the members of our mission
society arrived and put into motion a dream of our Bishop founder, Paul
M. Boyle: re-open St. Vincent Strambi High School. In 1994 Monsignor Michael
Palud opened the school with a staff of volunteer teachers and as the
schooling of the first group of students began, the staff of the high
school immediately felt a warm response from the local population. The
people felt the school was alive once again; a Phoenix reborn from the
ashes!
Native
Jamaican teachers, as well as volunteers, have worked along side the Mission
Society of Mandeville since the school's re-opening. A few of our current
teachers are past graduates! Every year we strive to offer excellence
to our student population and in 1998, the Ministry of Education formally
recognized our school permanently. In recent years we have had the pleasure
of having the Governor General come and open the newest wing of our school
and in 2004, we were granted the statsu of our own centre for the Caribbean
Examination Council (CXC) exams.
The subjects
we offer to our students include English, French, Religion, Math and Science.
Added to those base subjects are classes which prepare the students for
CXC exams related to the business world: Office Procedures, Accounting,
Principles of Business, Typing, Information Technology.
"Father
School" is the name affectionately given to us by the locals and
as such, all of what we do is done in the spirit of instilling in the
hears of our Jamaican Youth that everything must be done for God's Glory.
